PAUL "KAZE" THURTON

Studio Owner & Competitive Choreographer

         Owner of Simply Swagg Dance Studio, Paul Thurton was born in Langley, British Columbia where his training in music began early with influences from his father (Jazz musician/Engineer).  Paul’s impressive 22-year international career experience has made him a prominent figure in North America’s dance scene/industry.  Through his continued work, Paul has had the privilege of working with renowned artists and global figures, such as, Drake, Justin Timberlake, Prince Harry, Joe Biden, Missy Elliot and has earned him recognition on prestigious platforms such as Canada’s Got Talent Season 1&2, World Of Dance, Tiff, City TV, CBC and more!

             

         Paul’s influence extends beyond Canadian borders, as he has not only worked but competed in England, South Korea, France, Poland, China and more! 

 

          Paul’s story is one of entrepreneurship, community and passion for dance.  In 2009, he created & opened Simply Swagg Dance Studio, creating a space for dancers and youth to come together, learn and express themselves. 

​

His years working with youth, diverse dance experiences, creativity, skill and cultural influences provide a unique approach to dance which has garnered global attention for Simply Swagg Dance Studio. With a track record of commitment to his students and craft, Paul continues to be a trailblazer in the world of dance while housing hundreds of youths from around the GTA!

SARAH NANQUIL

Primary Choreographer / Instructor For Mini Mobb

          In 2012, at the age of 13, Sarah embarked on her dance journey at Simply Swagg Dance Studio.  Under the mentorship of Paul Thurton, she immersed herself in the world of hip hop dance, honing her skills and laying the foundation for what would become one of her passions.  By 2015, Sarah had not only become proficient in hip hop but also demonstrated leadership potential; contributing to the creation of our Mini’s program named the ‘Mini Mobb’. 

 

          While specializing as the primary instructor for the Mini Mobb, Sarah’s versatility shines through as she extends her expertise to junior and intermediate classes within the studio.  Although hip hop remains her focal points, her dance education encompasses a rich tapestry of styles; including tap, modern and musical theatre.  Sarah seamlessly integrates these diverse influences, creating a unique and textured movement language that sets her apart.

BJ "PUSHA" ALBANO

Krump Director

          B.J. Albano is Canadian Krump pioneer whose dance journey began amidst the dynamic dance scene of the 90’s where the pulse of Toronto’s dance scene was breakdancing, popping & dancehall.  However, it was the emergence of Krump dance in the early 2000’s that ignited a passionate flame within him, propelling his career in dance.

​

              A true trailblazer in Canada, B.J. plays a pivotal role in elevating Krump to a respect dance form.  For over a decade, he immersed himself in fostering the growth of Krump through various initiatives. His commitment to the community extends beyond the dance floor as he has become a driving force behind training programs, after-school programs, competitive events and community sessions. 

​

              Presently B.J. focuses on passing on his extensive knowledge and experience to the next generation through Simply Swagg’s Krump program “HypeClub Toronto”.  This program transcends traditional dance training, urging students to not only enhance their physical prowess but also embrace the values of strength, agility, coordination, character, musicality and the art of improvisation.

​

             His unwavering commitment and innovative approach allows B.J. to continue to shape the future of Krump in Canada by inspiring a new generation of dancers to push their boundaries!

ROSHEEN LONEY

Primary Choreographer / Instructor

From the age of five years, dance has been an integral part of Rosheen’s journey.  Rosheen joined Simply Swagg Dance Studio in 2016 which marked a pivotal moment as she began competing with Simply Swagg’s senior competitive team for numerous years.  In 2019, she was entrusted with the role of an instructor. 

 

Currently leading our junior & intermediate classes, she approaches her teaching with unwavering dedication.  Rosheen aspires to cultivate not only the dance skills but also the confidence of her students, empowering them to navigate all facets of life with confidence.

 

Dance has intricately woven a sense of purpose into Rosheen’s life, with the studio becoming more than a place of practice – it’s a home

Abby Medeiros

Studio Eye / Instructor

                Abby’s dance journey began at Simply Swagg in 2015 at the age of 12, marking the inception and passion that would lead her to numerous achievements and experiences.

​

                In 2017, Abby joined Simply Swagg’s senior competitive team, consistently clinching first-place awards, showcasing Abby’s commitment to excellence and her skills!  Her dedication to the art of dance has extended to assisting at Simply Swagg from October 2017, where she now works and teaches dancers of all ages. 

​

                Abby has worked at Canada’s Got Talent, Invictus Games, Tdot Fest, Scarborough Shooting Stars, and has traveled to Los Angeles, Montreal, London and Ottawa to name a few.

​

                She is now an intricate part of the Simply Swagg fabric, not only being the “studio eye” but leading our junior competitive squad “The Deltaz”, further showing her dedication to both personal growth and the next generation. Abby continues to leave a mark on the dance world and the youth she encounters.

RYLAN ANDRADE

BREAKDANCE PRIMARY INSTRUCTOR

          Rylan’s dance journey began at the age of 3, where a natural affinity for movement and rhythm became evident.  Early on, it was apparent that Rylan possessed a unique talent, prompting the decision to join Simply Swagg at the age of 6.  Under the guidance of mentors and dedicated training, Rylan swiftly became a standout member in the dance community.

​

           At 8 years old, Rylan delved into the realm of competitive programming, showcasing his versatility beyond the dance floor.  With his competitive teams, the Mini Militia and The Omegaz, Rylan won numerous national titles along with international recognition.  Rylan’s passion, dedication, willingness and eagerness to learn has allowed him to flourish in a multitude of facets. 

​

                As years progressed, Rylan’s passion for dance grew, leading to a role as  an assistant in Simply Swagg’s breaking classes.  This marked a  pivotal moment in Rylan’s dance career, as the transition from student to teacher began.  His care and ability to impart knowledge to others earned Rylan the position of a primary breaking instructor at Simply Swagg. 

 

Rylan exemplifies the multidimensional nature of a true artist and scholar simultaneously pursuing a career in mechanics in College.

MILA TUPY

PRIMARY INSTRUCTOR

          With a dance journey spanning over 14 years, Mila Tupy is making her mark on the Canadian entertainment industry. Her dedication and passion were rewarded in 2022 when she secured her dream role as “Jett” in the renowned series, The Next Step.

​

          Under the guidance of dance mentors like Kimberly Kay, Kathryn Kuwabara, and Jay T. Schramek, Mila honed her skills in diverse dance forms, including Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Hip Hop, and Acro. Further enriching her dance repertoire, she trained alongside B-Boy legend Paul “Kaze” Thorton, mastering the art of Hip Hop, Breakdancing, Krumping and Popping. This intense training culminated in her earning the distinguished title of B-Girl “GirlKaze.”

​

            Beyond the dance floor, Mila’s charisma shines brightly on and off the screen. She graced numerous commercials and delivered memorable performances, notably as ‘Karen Davidson’ in BILLY ELLIOT: THE MUSICAL at the 2019 Stratford Festival. Her versatility as an actor is evident with roles like ‘Liz Johnson’ in Erin’s Guide To Kissing Girls and the intriguing ‘DJ Lavender Bear’ in Disney’s Spin. Additionally, her talent has led her to projects with giants like Syfy and Apple TV.

​

            2021 was a pivotal year as Mila aligned with The Renegades, a dynamic Hip-Hop crew. Their collective prowess was recognized as they clinched a finalist position in the

debut season of Canada’s Got Talent.

​

            Deeply immersed in the world of Hip-Hop, Mila embodies the culture, reflecting in her appreciation for its music and the core values it champions—resilience, understanding, community, and social justice

JESSICA AUN

FITNESS COACH & DANCE INSTRUCTOR

                From the early days captured in home videos, it was evident that Jessica was born to dance.  Post-graduation and after exploring the world abroad, Jessica found her way back to Scarborough.  It was there she stumbled upon Simply Swagg Dance Studio, a haven for dance enthusiasts.   Under the guidance of Paul, Jessica embarked on a journey into the world of dance.  Starting with private sessions, Jessica quickly picked up a variety of styles.  

​

                After embracing her potential, and 7 years at the studio, Jessica deepened her involvement at the studio transitioning from a dedicated student to an assistant.  This eventually led to a role as a primary instructor, passing on the knowledge she has acquired over her years.

                For Jessica, Simply Swagg provided more than just a dance space; it became a vibrant community and second family.

AMMAAR DAWSON

PRIMARY INSTRUCTOR

          Ammaar’s dance journey is a testament to passion, purpose, dedication and the transformative power of movement.  With a curiosity for dance that started at the age of 14, Ammaar’s inspiration ignited while watching shows such as “American’s Best Dance Crew”.  Fuelled by the desire to express himself, Ammaar graced stages across Canada and the USA.  His exceptional talent has been recognized in various competitions, where he emerges victorious in events such as STOMP, GMA Toronto, BET Blaze The Stage and World Of Dance Toronto. 

​

           Beyond the accolades and competitions,  Ammaar’s journey is marked by the invaluable experiences gained at Simply Swagg.  The studio has not only been a training ground but a space where he has evolved from a student to a mentor/instructor.  Teaching at the studio allows Ammaar to impart his knowledge, passion and love for dance to a new generation.

Simply Swagg holds a special place in Ammaar’s heart, being one of the defining highlights of his life. 

MICHAEL WEN

BREAKDANCE ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR

          Renowned breaking instructor, Michael Wen, known in the dance world as BBoy Wenever started his dance journey at the age of 13.  As a testament to his commitment, Michael joined Simply Swagg at the age of 15 where he began his immersive exploration of the art form.

 

          With a decade of experience under his belt, Michael has not only become a respected instructor but has also traversed cities such as Montreal, Ottawa & Houston, leaving an indelible mark on the international breaking circuit.  His distinctive style sets him apart as a dancer who transcends mere movement, creating a narrative through his craft.

 

           Beyond the competitions and accolades, Michael is driven by a profound sense of purpose.  As a dedicated mentor, he devotes himself to shaping the next generation of dancers.
